Our Hero
(speaking to himself)
What is going on here? What does it mean and how…? Did somebody see me? I hope not! Am I? No, it’s impossible… isn’t it?
All these questions he has been asking himself while was riding his bicycle home.
Now, when he gets to his room in the hostel, where he can “get acquainted” with his ability… Soon enough, he understands that he can go through things.
Gradually, he builds up the complexity of the challenges and finally passes through the door of his room, finding himself in an empty hallway of the hostel. He is getting better and better at this. Finally, he manages to get through a fairly thick wall. Self-confidence seizes him, realizing that now he can control it.
What will a teenager, who has been constantly in need of everything living in a shelter since the age of 5, do after he realized that he has such a super ability? Of course – he decides to rob a bank!
He does not doubt his decision – the world in which he lives has long been divided into rich and poor. Everything is as always – the rich get richer and the poor get poorer – and it only gets worse.
The unemployment rate is worse than ever. Cases of robberies over the past 10 years have increased significantly. It is clear that many people are simply involved in thefts because of desperation, while the politicians turn a blind eye to this and try to distract people from the problem of inequality in this society.
People are being distracted with all sorts of third-rate show and endless discussions and promises of economic growth, but the problem is no longer in the growth of the economy – GDP is growing at an unprecedented rate – almost 4.5% annually, but the distribution system does not work in favor of the lower and middle class.
Only one politician stands out from the whole crowd – he speaks openly about this problem and says that automation should bring benefits to every member of society, and not just to a select circle of people.
On his posters robots are working instead of humans, while people walking with their families in the park. He emphasizes that the role of the state must grow in the field of robotics and automation in order to equalize the strengths of the rich and the poor. After all, each member of the society contributes his share in the common good. His views have found great support among many people and at the moment he is considered one of the favorites in the upcoming elections for mayor of the city.
But the election day is still far away, and the promises of politicians remain only promises too often. That is why John, like many others, so easily crosses this thin line between good and evil.
